The Right Honourable Kenneth Clarke, CH, QC, MP has formally accepted to become President of European Movement East Midlands.

George Smid commented: With Kenneth Clarke as our President we hope we will now get the media exposure we have been sadly lacking so far.

The European Movement is an independent, cross-party organisation committed to keeping the UK in the EU. Our belief is that there is no deal better for our country than full EU membership.

European Movement traces its origins to May 1948, when 800 delegates from Europe, Canada and the United States gathered in The Hague for the Congress of Europe. Presided by Winston Churchill and supported by important political figures such as Konrad Adenauer, Harold Macmillan, Bertrand Russell, François Mitterrand and others the conference led to the European Movement being formally created on 25 October 1948. Winston Churchill became one of the Honorary Presidents of the movement.

In February 2018 European Movement East Midlands had 8 branches: Derbyshire (North and South), Leicestershire, Lincolnshire (North and South), Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire, with hundreds campaigners and over a thousand of followers/supporters.

The UK is divided. Whatever the result of Brexit, half of the population will feel unsatisfied and left behind. European Movement East Midlands aim is to involve the opposing camps in the discussion to build bridges.
